mission
Our mission is to build bridges between academia, the legal profession, and the games and interactive entertainment industries, fostering high-impact, interdisciplinary research that is informed by the realities of practice and innovation.
Each MTJG event brings together a vibrant mix of researchers, creators, in-house counsel, industry experts, innovators, and legal practitioners. Together, we identify emerging legal challenges, exchange insights, and shape informed, inclusive solutions to support the development and protection of interactive entertainment globally.
history
More Than Just a Game was founded in 2015 by Dr Gaetano Dimita and the Centre for Commercial Law Studies at Queen Mary University of London to respond to the growing need for dialogue at the intersection of law, technology, and games. In 2019, Dr Michaela MacDonald (School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, QMUL) joined as co-organiser, enhancing the conference’s technological scope and interdisciplinary reach.
From its roots in London to its expansion across major European cities and into North America, MTJG remains committed to advancing scholarship and practice in games law while championing inclusive, forward-looking conversations about the future of interactive media.
